Lighting should be seen as a critical, complementary component of the original architectural design. Bring to life the dream or conception from drawing on paper to reality by adding texture colour and contrast.
We have a few helpful ways that you can make sure your lighting is always on point.
LIGHT UP YOUR LIVING ROOM:
A living room is an area that you spend a lot of time in so the lighting needs to be just right. Balance and adaptability are key to making sure this space is lit up in the right way. A permanent fixture , a chandelier, pendant or ceiling fan (a fan is perfect especially in summer) should be fitted with a few well-positioned LED downlighters and put on a dimmer switch. This gives the lounge the ability to be flexible for a multitude of uses and occasions for a family home at different times during the day
#HELPFULHINT: An overhead light can be paired with a floor lamp or table lamps to complete the look.
LAMPS FOR EVERY ROOM:
Lamps have the ability to add colour, texture and pattern to a room as well as provide some extra light. A room that is warm, welcoming and well-lit has been planned out well. You can use your bases and shades to add some fun and contrast to a room.
LET’S EAT:
A dining room tends to be easier to light as most of the action happens around your table. Aside from having a modern fluorescent that distributes a good even amount of illumination throughout the room whilst creating very few shadows. You can also use a chandelier or pendant light as your centre lighting fixture, or a set of LED downlighters. you may want to include a lamp or two for some extra ambience. You can put a task light near your sideboard to make serving up dinners that much easier.
#HELPFULHINT: Your main light can be put on a dimmer switch to create a more intimate vibe for dinner parties or flood the area with light if it’s used for a workspace.
WHERE ALL THE ACTION HAPPENS:
The kitchen is often the one place in the house where all the action goes down, so it’s safe to say that this lighting needs to be spot on. Consider using an overhead, heavy duty light for the area above your island as this is where the bulk of the work is done. A series of pendant lights is a perfect option for this.
#HELPFULHINT: The basic rule for the height of a pendant light in your kitchen is 80cm. This is obviously dependent on the height of your ceiling.
THE BOUDOIR:
Most people have bedside lamps as a standard on either side of their bed, but having your main light on a dimmer switch can create the right ambience. Think about using lamps on your dresser or even in your bathroom to give your space some extra lighting if it needs. A modern option for bedroom lighting is to suspend a hanging pendant above your bedside table.
MAKE YOUR HOME OFFICE WORK FOR YOU:
A home office needs to have the correct lighting because an area that is sufficiently illuminated promotes improved efficiency resulting in improved performance and therefore eradicating any glare or eye strain. Task lighting works best for a home office, while a lamp on your desk is essential as it reduces your eye-strain. Consider using an overhead switch or dimmer for when you have to do at night.
